Exhibitions: Thinking Through Tapestry

Thinking Through Tapestry is a juried exhibition featuring work that celebrates, explores, and builds upon specialized techniques often associated with tapestry. Thinking Through Tapestry invites artists to submit work exploring discontinuous weft-faced woven processes rooted in tapestry techniques such as wedge weave, pulled tapestry, the use of hachures, or other structures such as H.V. (Handarbetets Vänner also known as Theo Moorman technique). The American Tapestry Alliance is an international organization dedicated to promoting tapestry as an art form. In addition to organizing exhibitions featuring contemporary tapestry weavers, ATA provides educational support through a variety of educational programming that includes workshops and lectures. ATA also supports emerging artists through various awards and educational scholarships.

Exhibitions: Glass Immersed

In 2025, The d’Art Center launched its first Glass Circuit Event in alignment with Chrysler Museum’s Perry Glass Studio Grand Reopening Weekend. The Glass Circuit Tour featured glass exhibits, glass demos, art activities, and free transportation that connected three venues - The d’Art Center, Chrysler’s Perry Glass Studio, and The Glass Light Hotel.

This year, our Glass Immersed Dual Installation at d’Art Center will feature a Juried Glass Art Exhibit as well as an Artisan Glass Sale from both local and national artists. This installation will also outline the history of Norfolk’s Glass Scene, as well as the history of the Studio Glass Making Movement. The Juried Exhibit will highlight a unique  and diverse range of glass artworks.
