Submissions for the Joan Hisaoka Art Gallery in 2027

About the Opportunity:

The Arts and Healing program at Inova Schar Cancer is seeking submissions for individual and group art exhibits in the Joan Hisaoka Art Gallery in 2027. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Local artists and groups are invited to submit work for upcoming exhibitions that bring hope, healing, and inspiration. Located within Inova Schar Cancer at 8081 Innovation Park Dr., Fairfax, the Joan Hisaoka Art Gallery provides a unique and powerful setting for art – offering comfort and connection to patients, families, caregivers, and staff during their medical journeys.

About the Gallery
Since its opening in 2019, this thoughtfully curated space welcomes viewers in moments of vulnerability and strength. Whether individuals are receiving chemotherapy, attending consultations, or visiting loved ones, the gallery offers an emotional and visual respite – a place to pause, reflect, and feel supported. We are seeking artwork that speaks to the themes of healing, resilience, transformation, and beauty. Submissions may be contemplative or uplifting, abstract or representational. We welcome diverse voices and mediums.

Eligibility
Open to local artists in the DMV area working in original 2D and small to medium 3D formats. Work must be sensitive to a diverse audience that may be experiencing physical or emotional distress. Works previously shown in the gallery are ineligible for resubmission.

The gallery utilizes the Arakawa framing system. Accepted 2-D works must be framed and ready for hanging with D-rings. Artists are responsible for the delivery and pickup of their artwork.
